Farm Field Forage was accidentally born when we moved from Mendon, VT to Bennington. While doing yard work at our new home, we noticed a struggling hydrangea. An invasive vine’s tendrils were slowly choking it. As we learned more about this corner of southwestern Vermont along with neighboring New York and Massachusetts, we discovered that although incredibly beautiful, like many places in rural America it had become home to some pesky invasives. Uninvited vine was growing and thriving.

If we worked on removing invasives in favor of native plants, could we repurpose the vine somehow? Could we make a wreath?

As we yanked out more and more vine from trees and hedgerows we experimented by fashioning different bases and shapes, creating new gardens, and planting everlasting grasses and flowers. On foraging hikes and ski trips around the farm we discovered wild gifts - feathers, nuts, cones, berries, nests. We included the most beautiful and unusual in our designs. 

Friends encouraged us to offer wreaths for sale. We began vending at farmers markets and events. Next came requests to build and install larger pieces for houses and barns. We offered garlands, totems, poseys, and decorated a chuppah with forage and flowers for an outdoor wedding. Who knows what comes next?

We marvel at nature’s consistency and her surprise. We like working toward a sustainable future while we learn, grow, and try our best to remain present. We’re deeply grateful. Thank you family and friends, both new and old, for the everlasting encouragement and support.

Materials

• The materials we use are seasonally, terrain, and weather dependent so this makes exact product replication impossible. But if you see a picture of something you like we’ll do our best to come as close as we can. 
• Each piece is handcrafted using natural materials and variances will occur over time.
  

• When we make wreaths, foraged vines and branches are twisted and woven together from wild grapevine, Virginia Creeper, willow, forsythia and others. 
• Wreath base diameter measurements are closely approximate but usually don’t include depth or breadth of decorative materials. Please let us know if you want something to fit within a particular space.

Use

• Some materials are more suited for indoor use and some for outdoor. Describing how, when, and where you want to display your design (pics are appreciated) helps us to suggest both beautiful and practical materials.
• For maximum longevity, we recommend shielding most designs from direct sunlight, moisture, and wind. 

Price

• In addition to size and quantity, price includes time spent farming, foraging, designing, creating, and sometimes the use of rare and uncommon materials.

Shipping

• Some pieces can be shipped to you for an additional charge. Very large, bulky or extremely delicate work may need to be picked up or delivered.
  

Delivery ~ Installation 

• We offer delivery and/or installation - depending on travel times and schedules - within a 150 mile radius of Bennington, VT for an additional charge.

• Large pieces for home exteriors, barns, and outbuildings; designs to compliment retail interiors; holiday decorations; event flowers; and gifts for friends and family have all been featured in our commissioned work. After discussing your needs and budget, we’ll share ideas, quotations, and timelines.
